Public standard · Version 1.0

Strong disagreement. No personal abuse.

Middle Ground exists so difficult concerns can be voiced and tested fairly. That requires room for uncomfortable opinions—and firm protection against humiliation, intimidation and attacks on other participants.

Nothing submitted by a visitor is published automatically.

Every future contribution will enter a private moderation queue first. Automated screening will flag possible abuse immediately; contextual decisions will receive human review before anything appears publicly.

Strong views we allow

  • Firm criticism of policies, institutions, evidence and political ideas
  • Personal experience described without attacking another contributor
  • Unpopular or uncomfortable claims offered for examination
  • Good-faith disagreement, including criticism of Middle Ground itself

Content we hold back

  • Insults, mockery and degrading personal remarks
  • Slurs, dehumanising language and targeted hatred
  • Threats, intimidation, harassment or encouragement of violence
  • Publication of private information, spam or deliberate disruption
How the safeguard works
01 · Screen

Flag immediately

Automated checks look for abusive language, threats, slurs, harassment and attempts to evade the rules.

02 · Review

Read in context

A human reviewer distinguishes a personal attack from quotation, evidence, humour, reclaimed language or forceful criticism of an idea.

03 · Decide

Publish, rewrite or reject

Safe contributions may be published. Borderline contributions can be returned for rewriting. Abuse remains private.
